Abstract

This survey is a part of the GDOT Low Impact Bridge Program (LIBP). From the LIBP Manual: "The 100-foot expanded archaeology survey corridor on typical GDOT projects will be waived in some instances, given that projects in the Program are not intended to extend beyond existing ROW This consideration will be determined based on available design information and consultation with Office of Bridges and Structures. Field data will be assessed to ensure that the entire survey area has been surveyed. For the purpose of the field survey, generally 500 feet from existing structure approaches will serve as the longitudinal survey limits."

The existing bridge is structurally insufficient and will be replaced. The bridge is located approximately 3.2 miles southeast of Cohutta, Georgia. Design plans for the new project were not yet available at the time of the archaeological survey. The existing right-Of-way (ROW) measures 10 meters (33ft.) from the center line and an additional amount of permanent easement may be required for the installation of guardrail. No temporary roadways or bridges are proposed for this project An Environmental Survey Boundary (ESB) was provided for this project, which is intended to encompass all potential design changes. The ESB is 152 meters (500ft.) from either end of the bridge and 23 meters (75ft.) on either side of the centerline.
