Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STP-0001-00(999), McDuffie County, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect.

The proposed project would consist of widening the intersection of SR 10/US 78 and SR 223. Existing right-of-way on SR 10/US 78 and SR 223 is approximately 100'; additional required right-of-way varies up to 15 ' on the east and west approaches of SR 223 and the north and south approaches of SR 10/US 78. Construction along SR 10/US 78 begins at MP 14.47 and ends at MP 14.67, and on SR 223 begins at MP 8.91 and ends at MP 9.11 An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor.
