Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project TSAP 27(75), Appling County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor. This is the widening of SR 27 for a distance of 3750 feet east of Baxley. This entire area (15 to 30 feet ROW) was walked and nothing found. South of the road is a lumber company and other businesses which have resulted in disturbance of most of the area. The area to the north has been leveled, plowed, and grassed in preparation for industrial development.
