Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project RS-1267(1), Oconee co., has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor.

This project proposes to widen Mars Hill Road between Epps Bridge Road and S.R. 53 from the present 20 -foot pavement section to a 24-foot section. Also, the existing facility will be widened by 8 feet for a distance of about 530 feet from either direction at Oconee County High School. A similar section will be used to widen the Mars Hill/Epps Bridge Road intersection. All work will be done within the existing 80 feet of R/W.
