Abstract

Archeological Assessment of a Seminole/Decatur County Resurfacing Project. This project proposes to improve SR 285 beginning at M.P. 0.01 in Seminole County and ending at M.P. 0.24 in Decatur County. This project would construct and pave 2' of the existing shoulders left and right, followed by resurfacing. In addition, earth shoulders are to be reconstructed 4' from the edge of new pavement. All work will take place within the existing right-of-way, no new right-of-way is required. Total project length is 14.07 miles. Pursuant to the February 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Federal Highway Administration (FHW A), the State Historic Preservation Officer of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (SHPO), and the Georgia Department of Transportation, this project is considered an undertaking as defined in 36 CFR 800. 16(y), however, it has been determined there is no potential to affect historic properties included in or considered eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places.
