Abstract

The proposed project would replace the existing narrow and structurally deficient bridge on SR 53 over Cedar Creek, approximately 3.8km (2.4mi) north of Winder, Georgia. The existing structure is a 30.0m x 7.2m (98. 4ft x 23.6ft) bridge with a sufficiency rating of 34.5. The existing approaches consist of two 3.6m (12ft) travel lanes with approximately 1.8m (6ft) rural graded shoulders. The proposed structure would be a five barrel approximately 3.0m x 3.0m (10ft x 10ft) bridge culvert approximately 25m (82ft) in length. The new structure would be constructed approximately 30.5m (100ft) west of the present structure. Furthermore, SR 53 would be realigned to the west of its existing location to improve the existing curvature t o a 90km/ h (56mph) speed design. The proposed approaches would consist of two 3.6m (12ft) travel lanes with 2.4m (8ft) rural shoulders. The proposed approaches would begin from approximately 240m (787ft) south of Cedar Creek to 240m (787ft) north of Cedar Creek. Project length would be approximately 0.48km (0.3mi).
