Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project FR-022-1(16) Spalding County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor. The proposed project would widen S.R.3 & 16/U.S.19 & 41 in Griffin. The project as proposed would begin at the intersection of 16th Street then would extend easterly along S.R.3/U.S.19 to the intersection of 10th Street. Widening would be conducted within the existing rights- of-way with minor amounts of new rights-of-way required for increasing radius returns at intersections. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed rights-of-way was surveyed for the entire 0.7 mile length of the project corridor.
