The proposed project would replace the State Route (SR) 183 bridge over Cochrans Creek approximately 6 miles northwest of Dawsonville, Georgia. The existing bridge over Cochrans Creek is approximately 82 feet long and has two 12-foot lanes with no shoulder. The existing SR 183 typical section consists of two 12-foot travel lanes, one in each direction, with variable width shoulders up to 2.5 feet in width within 80 feet of existing right-of-way (ROW). The existing speed limit is 55 miles per hour (mph). The proposed bridge would be approximately 145 feet long with two 12-foot travel lanes and 6- foot shoulders. The proposed bridge would be constructed on existing alignment with traffic routed to an off-site detour during construction. The proposed SR 183 typical section would consist of two 12-foot travel lanes, one in each direction, with 10-foot shoulders (4 feet paved). The proposed ROW width would vary between approximately 140 feet and 165 feet. An easement up to 20 feet in width would be required on the west side of SR 183 to accommodate driveway reconstruction. The proposed speed limit would remain 55 mph. The total project length would be approximately .2 mile. An ESB was surveyed for the current project, measuring approximately 122 meters (400 feet) in width by 638 meters (2,093 feet) in length, and incorporating all the areas needed to complete the design as well as a buffer to account for potential changes as the design progresses.
