In compliance with Section I 06 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STP-0591 (8), Irwin County, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. The proposed project would consist of the addition of approximately 1.5 feet paved shoulders along SR 158 in Irwin County. The proposed project would begin at the intersection of SR 11/US 129 and would end at the west end of the Willacoochee River All construction would be limited to the existing right-of-way. An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted along the entire project corridor.
