Abstract

In compliance with Section l06 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STP-M000-00(133), Treutlen, Johnson, and Laurens Counties, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. The proposed project would consist of the construction of 2ft paved shoulders along SR 86 in portions of Treutlen, Johnson, and Laurens Counties. The project would begin at the intersection of SR 56 and SR 86 in Treutlen County and end at the intersection of SR 29 and SR 86, from MP 7.63 in Treutlen County to MP 9.89 in Laurens County, with a portion passing through Johnson County. All construction would be limited to the existing right-of-way. An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted along the entire project corridor.
