Abstract

Georgia DOT Project # BRM-0805(1) is an in place bridge replacement project at County Road 834 and the Tallapoosa River in Carroll County, District 3. Because the project is in place, no new areas will be impacted. Only those areas which have been disturbed by previous bridge construction will be affected. For this reason, no archaeological field inspection is necessary and the archaeological resources of the state will not be affected. The proposed project is to be the replacement of the existing bridge over the Tallapoosa River on CR 834 in Carrollton. The existing bridge is 186 feet long and 24 feet wide with a roadway width of 22 feet. The bridge has a steel substructure with steel beams and a concrete deck. The existing bridge is inadequate for present day traffic due to being under designed. The new structure will be approximately 180 feet long and 44 feet wide and will remain in two lanes.
