Abstract

The proposed project would widen existing SR 237 /Piedmont Road from SR 141 /Peachtree Road to SR 141

Connector/Lenox Road for a total project length of approximately 0.5 mile (804 m) (Figure 1). The existing roadway consists of four 1 0-11-foot through lanes, two in each direction, with a 1 0-12-foot, two-way, center left turn lane; curb and gutter; 10-foot sidewalks; and dedicated left turn lanes at Peachtree Road, Tower Place Drive, and Lenox Road/Carson Lane. The proposed project would widen Piedmont Road to six travel lanes, three in each direction, with a 12-foot, two-way, center left turn lane; curb and gutter; a 12-foot shared use path on the west side of the roadway; dedicated right and left turn lanes at Lenox Road; a dedicated left turn lane at Tower Place Drive; and a dedicated right turn lane at Peachtree Road. The outside through lanes would be 12 feet wide, and the remaining through lanes would be 10 feet. In addition, the typical section for southbound Lenox Road at Piedmont Road will be modified from the existing triple right and dual left turn lanes to triple left and dual right turn lanes. The existing right-of-way (ROW) on Piedmont Road is approximately 74 feet (22.5 m). Variable width ROW would be required for a total width of 92-133 feet (2840.5 m). Temporary variable width easements would also be required for construction on the west side of SR 237 /Piedmont Road. Temporary construction easements would extend from the required ROW edge to the front of the buildings.
