Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STNP-012-1(110), Hall and Habersham Counties, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. The proposed project, on SR 365/US 23, will reconstruct the existing median crossovers to provide type "B" median crossovers. The existing type "B" median crossovers will be extended to meet deceleration distances. Right tum lanes will also be constructed and/or extended to meet speed design deceleration distances at various locations. The proposed project begins approximately 3 miles north of the city limits of Gainesville and runs northbound to SR 384, approximately 2 miles south of the city limits of Cornelia.
