Abstract

The archaeological survey for the Golden Isles Parkway from Perry to Brunswick, Georgia, consisted of background research, the survey of a 10% random sample along the existing route, the survey of 100% of all new location sections (where feasible), and the selection and survey of high probability areas. The goal of this survey was to locate and evaluate all cultural resources potentially eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places that lay within the proposed project rights-of-way. The background research for the project included an examination of USGS topographic maps, aerial photographs, existing survey reports, and State Site files. This was done in order to identify known cultural resources in or near the proposed project right-of-way and to determine areas where sites would be likely to occur.
