In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project FR-002-6(40), Jackson County, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).
The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify, and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resource s within the project corridor. The proposed project begins approximately 1000 feet east of the junction of US 129/ SR 11 and SR 332 near Talmo. The project corridor proceeds in an easterly direction for approximately 1.1 miles, then dips slightly south for 1 mile to SR 426 (2000 feet north of the intersection of SR 426 and US 129/ SR 11) in northwest Pendergrass. The project corridor continues in a south to southeast direction for almost 2 miles to US 129/ SR 11 and estimated 1000 feet southwest of the Middle Oconee River and bridge. An archaeological survey consistent with the project boundaries was conducted.
