Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project BRZLB-217(7), Newton Co., has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor. The project proposes to replace the C.R. 49 bridge over Yellow River on new alignment. The project will extend 3,700 feet from C.R. 49 to 700 feet north of the C.R. 49/50 intersection. Required R/W will be 100 feet except where the bridge will cross the river. Here, the R/W will be 150 feet. The survey encompassed a corridor 25 feet on either side of the proposed R/W or 75 feet either side of the centerline.
