Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project 50104-2-91-3, Chatham County, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify, and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor. Project 50104-2-91-3 involves the construction of a southside transit center at Oglethorpe Mall in Savannah. The transit center site will be located on the Mall Boulevard end of the Oglethorpe Mall between Morrison's Cafeteria and J.C. Penney. The site, which would cover approximately one acre of the mall parking lot, will consist of one island with seven sawtooth bus bays. A single large shelter or a number of small ones and benches will also be constructed on site.
