Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of has 1966 eligible and surveyed amendments with respect thereto, to project archaeological MR-3201(1) Bibb resources, County especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor.

This project proposes to widen and reconstruct S.R. 74/Dempsey Avenue from Pionono Avenue to I-75. The project is .3-mile-long and a corridor 100 feet either side of the existing centerline was surveyed for this distance.

An archaeological survey (Level I) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT Archaeological Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in the Federal Administration and DNR Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodology approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources.

No significant archaeological resources were located within the proposed project corridor as described in paragraph two above. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
