Abstract

Environmental Corporation of America (ECA) has completed an Archaeological Assessment for the federal undertaking at the subject site. The proposed undertaking would include a proposed approximate 80-foot by 80-foot (24-meter by 24-meter) lease area that would include a 179-foot overall height monopole telecommunications structure and associated ground-level equipment. The proposed lease area currently includes associated ground-level equipment and an existing water tank upon which telecommunications antennas are currently placed. The existing water tank would be deconstructed and replaced with the proposed 179-foot monopole and the existing ground-level equipment would remain. The subject site is located at 701 King Street, Riverdale, Clayton County, Georgia.

This archaeological assessment was conducted in order to ascertain whether the proposed undertaking, on the project site, might directly or indirectly affect cultural resources, if any such resources exist. During our database research, we found two previously recorded archaeological sites (9CN225 and 9XC250) and twelve survey reports (2885, 3120, 5379, 6531, 6534, 6552, 6564, 7731, 7732, 8416, 9147, and 9882) within our standard 1-mile background research radius. None of the sites or surveys were identified within our project’s APE for direct effects. During the course of the field survey portion of this archaeological assessment, no archaeological cultural resources were encountered.

We conclude that the undertaking would not affect any historic or prehistoric archaeological resources that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Therefore, for archaeological cultural resources, we recommend a finding of No Effect for the proposed undertaking at the project site.
