Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project FR-207- 2 (4), Richmond County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor. This project proposes to widen and reconstruct S.R. 56 Loop/New Savannah Road from I - 520/ Bobby Jones Expressway north to U. S. 78/ Gordon Highway. The project would be 3.12 miles long and would require an additional 37 to 47 feet of right-of-way to the existing 127 to 137 feet. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed corridor was conducted.
