Abstract

R. S. Webb & Associates (RSWA) conducted a Phase I cultural resources survey of the proposed 246-acre Waste Management Chesser Island Landfill expansion project tract from October 23 through November 13, 2006. RSWA recorded one archeological site and one Isolated Find within the project tract as a result of the cultural resources survey. Site 9CRJ 92 consists of two eroded prehistoric ceramic sherds recovered from a shovel test. IF-I consists of a prehistoric lithic (chert reduction flake) recovered from a shovel test. No historic (over 50 years old) structural resources were identified as a result of the architectural survey. Site 9CRI 92 and lf-1 are recommended ineligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Implementation of the Waste Management Chesser Island Landfill expansion project would not result in an effect to significant cultural resources. Clearance to proceed with implementation of the Waste Management Chesser Island Landfill expansion project with no further cultural resources work is recommend.
