Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project BRF-011-1(47), Harris County, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. The proposed project would replace the structurally deficient bridge on US 27/SR 1 over Mulberry Creek in Harris County. The project would begin approximately 300 feet south of the existing bridge and end 700 feet north of the existing bridge. The total project length would be 1000 feet. The original project description had an on-site detour to the east of US 27 /SR l. An eligible mill site was located on the survey for this eastern detour. The detour was then moved to the west of US 27 /SR 1 to avoid the mill site. This reevaluation survey was to survey the additional 50 feet of required right-of-way needed on the west side of US 27/SR 1 for the detour. The existing right-of-way is 100 feet.
