Abstract

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) plans to install a roundabout at the intersection of SR 211 at CR 47/Old Hog Mountain Road (PI No. 0015883) in Barrow County (Attachment 1). The proposed undertaking involves reconstructing the intersection of SR 211 at CR 47/Old Hog Mountain Road/Covered Bridge Road for operational improvement and crash frequency reduction. The work was conducted pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, as amended (36 CFR 800), and was intended to identify and evaluate the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility of archaeological resources in the project's area of potential effect (APE). SR 211 is a two-lane undivided roadway that runs in the southwest-northeast direction and carries 12-foot travel lanes with four-foot wide outside shoulders and open drainage ditches in each direction. Old Hog Mountain Road is also a two-lane roadway that runs in the east-west direction with termini at SR 124 to the west and SR 211 to the east, beyond SR 211 it becomes Covered Bridge Road, which continues to the east. It is an undivided roadway with 12-foot travel lanes and four-foot outside shoulders and open drainage ditches in each direction. The existing right-of-way (ROW) is 60-80 feet on SR 211, 60 feet on Old Hog Mountain Road, and 80 feet on Covered Bridge Road.
