Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, Safety Project, Walton County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. The proposed project consists of the intersection improvement at SR 20 and SR 81 in Loganville. This project will involve the widening of SR 20 for left turn lanes to accommodate east and westbound traffic on SR 81 and will provide for a right turn lane on to SR 20. The project would begin approximately 131.1 m (430 ft) west of SR 81 and end approximately 48.8 m (160 ft) east of SR 81. The existing right- of- way along the project area is 24.4 m (80 ft). Additional right- of-way is required only in the northern quadrant of the intersection consisting of approximately 3. 66 m (12 ft). An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted along the project corridor.
