Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project F-004-3(24) McDuffie County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify, and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor. The archaeological survey was conducted in accordance with GDOT Archaeological survey guidelines developed by the GDOT staff archaeologists and agreed upon by the Federal Highway Administration, State Historic Preservation Officer, and State Archaeologist. The proposed project will consist of an additional 14' two-way center turn lane on SR 12, from the end of the existing four-lane section (east of Black St.) to the SR 10 intersection, in Thomson, a distance of 1.3 miles. All construction activities will be confined within the existing 60' right-of-way, consequently, no additional right- of-way will be acquired for project implementation.
