Abstract

An archeological reconnaissance was performed within the proposed SWAN drop zone in the Chattahoochee National Forest, Fannin County, Georgia. The reconnaissance included surficial and sub surficial examination of the impact area and resulted in the identification of two aboriginal sites. SWAN #1 has been largely disturbed by past forest management practices, however, SWAN #2 is a relatively intact sub surficial cultural deposit. A discussion of potential site significance and management alternatives is presented.
