Abstract

Environmental Corporation of America (ECA) has completed an Archaeological Assessment for the federal undertaking at the subject site. The subject site is a proposed telecommunications facility located at 1860 Dawson Forest Road East near Dawsonville in Dawson County, Georgia. The proposed telecommunications compound would measure approximately 100-feet by 55-feet with a proposed approximate 78-foot by 20-foot access route. The facility would include 180-foot monopole telecommunications structure (185-feet with appurtenances) and associated ground level support equipment. This archaeological assessment was conducted in order to ascertain whether the proposed undertaking, on the project site, might directly or indirectly affect cultural resources, if any such resources exist. Through our review of available cultural records and databases, no previously recorded archaeological sites were identified within the area for direct effects. Furthermore, during the course of the field survey portion of this archaeological assessment no archaeological cultural resources were encountered. We conclude that the proposed undertaking would not affect any historic or prehistoric archaeological resources that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Therefore, for archaeological cultural resources, we recommend a finding of No Effect for the proposed undertaking at the project site. The project area is located within the limits of the Coal Mountain, Georgia United States Geological Survey (USGS) 7.5-minute Topographic Quadrangle Map1, as shown on Attachment 12a. Attachment 12b is a plan view that shows the site configuration. Attachment 11 d is a recent aerial photograph2 of the site area. The proposed 100-feet by 55-feet telecommunications compound is located at approximately N34° 21' 12.1" W84° 05' 01.7" (UTM 16 768226E 3805191N). The facility site would be accessible from the public right-of-way on the south side of Dawson Forest Road East and would traverse southerly through a wooded area for approximately 78 feet to the proposed telecommunications facility.
