Abstract

Environmental Corporation of America's client, Southern Communications Services, d/b/a Southern Linc c/o Value Concepts, Inc. is proposing to construct a 420-foot tall (overall height) guyed-type telecommunications structure located off Little Sand Mountain Road, Armuhcee, Chattooga County, Georgia. ECA conducted a Phase I Archaeological Assessment of the Area of Potential Effects (APE) consisting of background research, field investigations, and preparation of this report.

This archaeological assessment was conducted in order to ascertain whether the proposed undertaking might directly or indirectly affect cultural resources, if any such resources exist. Through our review of available cultural records and databases, one previously recorded archaeological site (9CG83) and four archaeological surveys (1341, 5354, 8437, and 11874) were identified within a I-mile background research radius but outside the APE for direct effects. During the course of the field survey portion of this archaeological assessment, no archaeological cultural resources were encountered.

ECA believes that the proposed undertaking would have no effect on any historic or prehistoric archaeological resources that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Based on our findings related to archaeological resources, we recommend no further consultation under Section 106 Review of the National Historic Preservation Act for this proposed undertaking.
