CULTURAL RESOURCES SURVEY OF THE LITTLE ROCK CREEK ROAD EXTENSION UNION COUNTY, GEORGIA

Report Number

Year of Publication
1983
Abstract

A cultural resource survey of the Little Rock Creek Road Extension in the Chestatee Ranger District of the Chattahoochee National Forest was conducted on March 9, 1983. The proposed road extension is 4.8 miles in length and extends from a saddle just north of Pine Tar Knob southeast to Union County Road 165. A return survey covered an additional 3.0 miles of terrain.

The survey area included 60 feet on each side of a center line for a total coverage of 120 acres.

No cultural resources were discovered within the proposed road extension boundaries, however, two aboriginal sites were located during the return survey. These sites consisted of primarily quartz lithic deposits of moderate density containing finished tools and flaking debris. Only one site appeared to retain an in situ deposit. The other site was composed of surface mateĀrials in a logging road which had heavily damaged the cultural integrity of the site. Both sites lie outside of proposed impact areas and therefore warrant no immediate attention for significance evaluation. It is recommended that the proposed Little Rock Creek Road Extension should be cleared from impact to cultural resources.
