Abstract

The proposed project would install surveillance cameras, conduit and fiber optic cable on existing utility poles within existing right-of-way (r-o-w) along Memorial Drive/SR 10 from Kensington Road east to the Gwinnett county line and along North Druid Hills Road from Clairmont Road/US 23 east to Lawrenceville Highway/US 29.

This project is not considered an undertaking, as defined in the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 in section 36 CFR 800.2, which states, "Undertaking means any project, activity, or program that can result in changes in the character or use of historic properties, if any such historic properties are located in the area of potential effects." In the case of this project, surveillance cameras, conduit and fiber optic cable would be installed on existing utility poles within existing r-o-w in heavily commercially developed areas.

The area of potential effect for this project has been determined to be limited to the existing utility poles within existing r-o-w. The project corridors are heavily commercialized with numerous utility poles and cables erected along them. So, as the project would merely add one more cable to the existing poles and cables, it does not have the potential to cause changes in the character or use of historic properties, and it is not considered to be an undertaking. Therefore, no further Section 106 compliance procedures are necessary.
