Abstract

An archeological assessment of these two sites determined that both offered archeologists valuable data. These sites were particularly important because no large-scale excavations had been conducted previously in either Fayette County or anywhere in the headwaters of the Flint River drainage. Archeologists, therefore, were curious about the lifestyles of Indian groups in the area, including their settlement patterns, periods of habitation, trade practices, and their patterns of adaptation to the environment.

Archeologists determined that the Falcon Field Site, (designated as site 9FY36), offered the greatest potential for revealing this type of data and concentrated the largest excavations on this site. This report focuses on the Falcon Field Site and the results of archeological techniques applied here.
