Abstract

In response to a request from Ignite Wireless, Inc., RESCOM Environmental Corp (RESCOM)., has completed a Phase Ia archaeological reconnaissance and records check for a proposed telecommunications tower site in Decatur County, Georgia (Figure 1). The project area is located west of Black Jack Road at 30°53'56.2"N 84°30'54.S"W as seen on the USGS 7 .5' Bainbridge, GA, quadrangle (Figure 2). The project area is within a wooded location directly north of railroad and measures 60-ft by 25-ft area for a proposed telecommunications tower with a 36-ft by 23-ft access easement that extends east-southeast to Black Jack Road; approximately 0.05-acre in total (Figure 3). An archaeological records check conducted on behalf of RESCOM by the UGA Laboratory of Archaeology via the Georgia Archaeological Site File (GASF) shows no archaeological sites overlapping the project area. Fieldwork was conducted on June 3, 2021 by archaeologist Eric Sanchez, Indiana University 2008, under the supervision of Andrew Smith M.A., Ball State University 2010, Principal Investigator and Secretary of Interior qualified professional archaeologist. This report details the results of the records check and Phase Ia field reconnaissance and presents the conclusions and recommendations of RESCOM concerning any additional archaeological investigations.
