Abstract

Under contract with Jordan, Jones & Goulding, foe., Brockington and Associates, Inc., conducted an archaeological resources survey (Phase I) of the Shoal Creek to Spout Springs Transmission Line in Hall and Gwinnett counties. The project corridor is approximately 19 km (12 mi). Survey tasks were completed in compliance with criteria defined under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and with regulations implementing this legislation (36CFR Part 800: Protection of Historic Properties).

Background research was conducted at the Georgia Archaeological Site File (University of Georgia, Athens) to determine if any previously recorded archaeological sites are present within or adjacent to the project corridor. Three archaeological surveys conducted in the vicinity resulted in the recording of nine sites within 0.8km (0.5 mi) of the corridor. None of the sites were recommended eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and none will be impacted by the proposed transmission line because all are located beyond the project boundary.

The field survey identified no archaeological sites or historic resources. Four isolated finds were recorded within the project corridor. All are ineligible for the NRHP. The proposed project will not affect significant cultural resources. Cultural resource clearance is recommended.
