Abstract

The proposed project fixes a washout area adjacent to State Route (SR) 520 located about 6.4 kilometers (km) (4 miles [mi]) north of Richland in Stewart County, Georgia. The existing infrastructure of SR 520 is a four lane (two 3.65-meter [m] [12-foot [ft]] lanes, with 1.2 m [4 ft] paved outside shoulders and 0.6 m [2 ft] paved inside shoulders, separated by a depressed median) Principal Arterial. The washout currently impacts approximately a 91.44 m (300 ft) length of the western side of SR 520. The proposed section of SR 520 will remain the same as the existing condition. However, the washout will be repaired by excavating unsuitable material, starting from the toe of the failure, and progressing to the existing median of SR 520. The benched excavation will be repaired with suitable material and the outfall of the drainage system will be replaced. Traffic will be managed onsite via a crossover to the eastern lanes of SR 520. The project would require approximately 0.18 hectares (ha) (0.46 acres [ac]) of right-of-way (ROW). The existing ROW is roughly 55 m (180 ft).
