Abstract

The proposed project would replace the existing culvert on State Route (SR) 36 at Big Sandy Creek. The culvert, Structure ID 035-5055-0, constructed in 1954, consists of three steel plate pipes. The culvert was designed using a H-15 design vehicle, which is below current standards. and the overall condition is classified as fair. This structurally deficient triple-span steel culvert requires replacement due to scour undermining both the inlet and outlet. rust and corrosion throughout the culvert floor and walls, with minor to moderate distortion in the walls and the floor. Two of the three pipes have silt build up, and the flow is completely restricted. Moderate erosion is present on the shoulders behind the guardrails. Due to the design vehicle being below current standards and the age and condition of the culvert. replacement is necessary. The design for the proposed project is being developed concurrently with the environmental analysis. and additional details of the culvert replacement are not yet known. Existing right-of-way (ROW) along SR 36 measures 30.5 m (100 ft) wide. The amount of required ROW, if any, is currently unknown. The total project length is approximately 0.6 kilometer (km) (0.4 mile [mil).
