Abstract

The project consists of replacing the existing State Route (SR) 106 bridge over the Middle Fork Broad River. The project is located in Franklin County. It is expected that the existing bridge (Structure ID 119-0033-0) would be replaced on the existing alignment utilizing an off-sight detour to accommodate traffic. The existing bridge consists of two 3.7-meter (m) (12-foot [ft]) travel lanes, 0.6 m (2 ft) gutters, and the proposed bridge consists of two 3.7 m (12 ft) travel lanes with 2.4 m (8 ft) shoulders. The design for the project is being developed concurrently with the environmental analysis and additional details of the proposed bridge design are not yet known. The roadway typical section consists of two 3.7 m (12 ft) lanes with 3.0 m (10 ft) shoulders (1.2 m [4 ft] of which are paved). Existing right-of-way (ROW) is 18.3 m (60 ft), and the proposed ROW will vary between 18.3 m (60 ft) and 30.5 m (100 ft). The total project length is approximately 0.6 kilometers (km) (0.4 miles [mi]).
