Abstract

In response to a request from Ignite Wireless, Inc., RESCOM Environmental Corp (RESCOM) has completed a Phase Ia archaeological reconnaissance and records check for a proposed telecommunications tower site in northwest Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia (Figure 1). The project area is located at 1201 Hale St (33°27'52.3"N 81°58'01.0"W) as seen on the USGS 7.5' Augusta East, GA, quadrangle (Figure 2). The project area consists of previously disturbed sparsely wooded location adjacent to a railroad easement and measures 100-ft by 100-ft for a monopole compound with a 30-ft by 105-ft access road; 0.30-acre in total area (Figure 3).

An archaeological records check conducted on behalf of RESCOM by the UGA Laboratory of Archaeology via the Georgia Archaeological Site File (GASF) determined no known archaeological sites overlap the project area. Fieldwork was conducted on March 9, 2022 by archaeologist Stephen Nazian, University of South Florida 2008, under the supervision of Andrew Smith M.A., Ball State University 2010, Principal Investigator and Secretary of Interior qualified professional archaeologist.

This report details the results of the records check and Phase Ia field reconnaissance and presents the conclusions and recommendations of RESCOM concerning any additional archaeological investigations.
