Abstract

TG Earnest and Associates conducted a cultural resource assessment within the boundaries of the proposed Georgia State Patrol Post 18 facility in Reidsville, Tattnall County, Georgia. This assessment was conducted on September 23-24, 2022 at the request of Georgia Water and Environmental Services in compliance the Georgia Environmental Protection Act of 1991, with the Georgia Department of Public Safety serving as lead agency. The purpose of this assessment was determining if cultural resources would be affected by constructing Georgia State Patrol facilities and associated infrastructure.

One historic home, the 1898 Judge Michael William Eason house, is located north and adjacent to the project area. Although recommended as NRHP eligible, this historic home will not be adversely affected by the proposed project due to changes in the surrounding landscape that have compromised the area’s original rural setting. Scattered bricks associated with a recently demolished outbuilding south of the Eason House are present on the northern end of the physical APE. No prehistoric cultural resources were encountered. Survey results indicate the proposed project will have no effect upon historic properties within the physical APE and no adverse effect upon historic properties within the visual APE.
