Abstract

The following report summarizes the results of an archaeological survey of areas to be affected by the proposed modification of designated stream banks in Banks, Franklin, Hall, Jackson, Rabun and Union Counties, Georgia by the Soil Conservation Service (Fig. 1). The proposed construction sites which were surveyed consisted of a total of 296 creek and river bank segments having a minimum bank height of 12 feet. Construction will consist of grading the creek and river bank and covering the graded area with rock. Dr. Paul R. Fish, University of Georgia, acted as principal investigator of the project. Field survey was conducted by University of Georgia archaeologists Richard W. Jefferies, Chung Ho Lee, and Dan T. Elliott. Fieldwork was done during May and June, 1978. Field survey required a total of 19 man/days to complete, with an additional 9 man/days required for laboratory analysis and report preparation.
