Abstract

This report summarizes the results of an archaeological survey related to a proposed McDonough City Services Complex, the City of McDonough, Henry County, Georgia. The proposed new city complex site is a 1.571 acre area located in the middle of the city of McDonough, which is located approximately 42 kilometers southeast of Atlanta at the intersections of Ga. 20, Ga. 81, and Ga. 42 (Fig. 1). Dr. Paul R. Fish, Department of Anthropology, University of Georgia, served as Principal Investigator for the project. The field survey was conducted by University of Georgia archaeologist, Dr. Chung Ho Lee. Fieldwork was accomplished on December 2, 1977. The actual field inspection of the project area required one man/day. Background research and report preparation required an additional two man/days.

The purpose of this report is to provide information concerning: 1) the map location and description of all archaeological sites located within the proposed project area; 2) the determination of the level of significance for identified archaeological sites and recommendation concerning eligibility of identified sites to the National Register of Historic Places; 3) an evaluation of the potential effect of proposed city services complex construction on identified cultural remains; and 4) if necessary, the formulation of a research design to structure future investigation mitigating adverse impacts of the proposed project.
