Abstract

On December 13, 1982, the author conducted a cultural resource survey over a total of 185 acres which included the 2.3-mile length of the proposed Hunter Knob Road (FS 724) and Stand Nos. 1 and 2 of a proposed timber sale. The survey covered a 200-meter wide corridor as visibility permitted, and 19 acres in each of the aforementioned stands. The project area is located in the Brasstown Ranger District of the Chattahoochee National Forest in Towns County, Georgia. Pedestrian reconnaissance which included subsurface testing located one aboriginal quartz lithic scatter as a surface deposit in a wildlife opening outside of the project area. This site has been heavily disturbed by plowing and requires no further investigations. Therefore, it is recommended that the Hunter Knob Road and timber sale units be cleared from cultural resource impact.
