Abstract

A cultural resource survey was conducted over a 2-mile length of proposed road FS 339 which extends from Noontootla Creek to Peter Knob in Fannin County, Georgia. Field reconnaissance which included subsurface testing located two aboriginal sites and one historic rock pile site. Investigations of the aboriginal sites revealed heavy site disturbances requiring no additional investigations. A rock pile cluster was located along the proposed roadway. An on site examination of this site showed that the piles were from historic field clearings and were of little cultural significance. The road centerline was adjusted slightly to cause minimal disturbance to the piles.
