Abstract

From August 25-31, 1983, the author conducted a cultural resource survey on 1605 acres covering Compartment 38 of the Tallulah Ranger District of the Chattahoochee National Forest. Field reconnaissance which included subsurface testing located twenty sites ranging from the Late Archaic (3000-1000 BC) to the Late 19th and Early 20th Centuries. Eight of these sites are recommended for preservation and protection from adverse impact until further investigations are conducted to determine cultural integrity and National Register eligibility. These sites appear to contain intact cultural deposits, based on a survey level of investigation. The remaining sites show moderate to heavy disturbances due to logging road construction or have cultural deposits or structures of recent affiliation. It is recommended that the remaining acreage should be cleared from impact to cultural resources.
