Abstract

A cultural resource survey of a 151.8 ha area within Fort Stewart Military Reservation, Georgia yielded negative evidence for prehistoric and early historic period occupation within the project area. A reconnaissance survey consisting of shovel testing was conducted at systematic intervals along transects in the area. Approximately 70.5 ha of the survey area are extensively disturbed by construction and military activities while the remaining 81.3 ha are covered by extremely dense Coastal Plain forest vegetation and ground cover. Two scatters consisting of historic material were located during the survey and are assessed as lacking cultural significance. No sites or localities are recommended as eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
