Abstract

On April 15, 1984, Robert S. Webb of Claude Terry & Associates, Inc. (CTA) conducted a 100 percent coverage cultural resource survey of the proposed site of a wastewater treatment facility in Rochelle, Wilcox County, Georgia. Reviews of the state site files in Athens, Georgia, and the National Register of Historic Places in Atlanta, Georgia, revealed no previously recorded prehistoric or historic sites within the project area. The surface survey and subsurface shovel testing revealed one site: a prehistoric surface scatter (144-A4A-1) dating to the Early Archaic period. The site was determined to have been heavily disturbed by recent agricultural activity and retains little significant archeological data. Based on these findings, CTA recommends full cultural clearance for the proposed oxidation pond site.
