Abstract

Cultural resources surveys were conducted on a series of tracts in southwestern Jasper County, Georgia, from mid-1982, through mid-1984. They were on the Oconee National Forest, and were done prior to various Forest activity plans. The surveys reported covered 2721 acres of rolling hills in the Georgia Piedmont, and located 30 cultural sites, of which 13 had historic components, including one cemetery, and 18 had prehistoric components. The site ages ranged from the prehistoric Lithic (probably Archaic) period through the Mississippian to the historic early 20th Century. Two of the prehistoric and two historic sites are recommended for protection and testing, and the cemetery will be preserved undisturbed.
