Abstract

This cultural resources review involved the reconnaissance level survey of 137 isolated project areas for the Fort Benning. Master Plan, which covers the next five fiscal years of construction on the Reservation. The survey, conducted during the period of February through July, 1985, identified 61 new archeological sites and re-located seven previously recorded sites. The sites range in age from prehistoric Early Archaic through Mississippian to historic Creek Indian and Euro-American. Specific recommendations are made regarding the significance of these sites and the impact of planned construction on them and on extant buildings. This information appears in narrative, summary, and tabular form, as well as appended Cultural Resource Compliance Status forms, for best use by Fort Benning personnel.
