Abstract

A cultural resources survey of the area to be impacted by construction of the proposed Thiele Kaolin Company waste storage facility was conducted on 18 April 1990 by Southeastern Archeological Services. The approximately 12 ha (30 ac) project area consists of a narrow wooded valley and adjacent terraced slopes up to the 137 m (450 ft) contour line. No archeological sites were discovered within the project area and no structures older than fifty years were observed within view of the project area. It is the recommendation of the principal investigator that, since no cultural resources will be affected by construction of the proposed storage pond, in regard to cultural resources, the project be given clearance to proceed.
