Abstract

In 1988 and 1989, New World Research, Inc. conducted a cultural resources study of a proposed Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Corporation 12.05 mile pipeline corridor in northeastern Georgia. The survey team located and recorded 20 archaeological sites: 13 prehistoric. two historic and five which contained both historic and prehistoric components. One of the historic sites, 9Eb422, was a property previously located and revisited during the current study. In addition, seven isolated finds, one stone wall and ten stone piles were located. Further testing was conducted at five of these sites, 9Eb44, 9Eb175, 9Eb176, 9Eb181 and 9EbI83, in order to evaluate their potential significance. Based on the combined results of all phases of work, only 9Eb44 was evaluated as potentially eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
