Abstract

The city of Blairsville, Georgia, proposes to construct a wastewater treatment system on approximately 40.5 ha (100 acres) of U. S. Forest Service property north of the city. In order to comply with federal regulations governing the disposition of significant archeological or historical sites, the city sponsored a cultural resources survey of the property. A pedestrian survey employing a combination of surface observation and subsurface testing was completed 19 - 20 March, 1992. One prehistoric archeological site (9UN68) and three prehistoric artifact occurrences were recorded. The site was judged to be not significant due to sparsity, disturbance, and erosion. No special precautions need to be followed to protect this site from construction-related impacts. We recommend that the project be allowed to proceed.
